Amanda Valenti’s strong desire to help others led her to become a Registered Migration Agent as she always wanted a career where she could make a difference to peoples’ lives.
She’s one of the few members of the Visa Solutions Australia team who was actually born in Australia. Both sets of her Grandparents are Italian and emigrated in the 1950’s.
“Australia is a diverse country, look at everyone’s backgrounds, I love working with a mix of nationalities. I love my Italian heritage and learning about others’ heritage and culture, she explained.
From college to university
Amanda calls herself a people-person, and her route to working in migration involved plenty of study.
“When I left school, I undertook a business degree at Curtin University and found that I really enjoyed my commercial law subjects. It seemed a natural progression for me to then do a law degree at Murdoch University.”
“That’s where my interest developed in migration law. Migration work suits me as I like working with others, finding solutions. That human aspect of bringing people together is both fascinating and rewarding,” explained Amanda.
Travelling the world and exploring different cultures
After studying law and having earned two degrees, Amanda went travelling. She first visited Ethiopia where she volunteered in an orphanage during the children’s holiday program, before moving on to explore Europe and Central America.
“It cemented my desire to work with those from different cultural backgrounds. The migration industry is the perfect fit for me career-wise as I get to do just that,” she explained.
“When I returned to Perth, I undertook a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practise and a Graduate Certificate in Migration Law. I then worked for a migration agent in Perth and later undertook some offshore work in refugee migration before coming to Visa Solutions Australia.”
She has a list of countries she’d like to visit, especially those which are rich in culture and developing. She’s already travelled to Trinidad, Jamaica, Madagascar and Morocco where she enjoyed immersing herself in different experiences.
Outside of work Amanda’s passion is music, and she keeps up to date with the latest Afro-beat and Soca tunes. She also enjoys health and fitness and getting outdoors to exercise where possible.
Family visas – Amanda’s speicality
Amanda is involved with all aspects of migration, but she finds family migration most fulfilling.
“Family visas are just so special as they can transform peoples’ lives. When we assist in the process of uniting a family together, there’s human emotion involved which is quite powerful.”
“There is that thrill of knowing that you have been part of the process to bring happiness to others,” she explained.
Career aspirations and goals
Amanda says she feels she’s found a profession which she enjoys and is keen to expand her knowledge bases into more specialist areas.
“Yes, I’d like to broaden my experience by dealing with different clients and cases here at Visa Solutions Australia. I particularly have an interest to develop my sills and specialise in visa cancellations and Administrative Appeal Tribunal work.”
