Who can apply for an Australian parent visa?

To be eligible for an Australian parent visa, you must have a child who is an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand resident. You must also be able to demonstrate that at least half of your children are permanent residents of Australia or that a majority of your children permanently reside in Australia compared to any other single country.

Can I bring my family?

You can include your partner and any dependent children on your application.

Do I need to be in Australia?

You can apply for this visa onshore or offshore, but you can’t be in immigration clearance when you apply.

If you apply from within Australia, any family members that apply with you must also be in Australia, likewise, if applying from outside Australia, family members applying with you must also be outside of Australia.

If you are applying as a retiree, you must be in Australia but not in immigration clearance when you apply.

You can be onshore or offshore when the decision is made on your application.
