Visitor Visas

Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601)

Allows short-term visits to Australia for tourism or business activities. Visit as often as you wish in a 12-month period for up to three months at a time.

eVisitor (subclass 651)

Permits travel to Australia for tourism or business as often as you wish in a 12-month period for up to three months at a time.

Transit visa (subclass 771)

Enables travellers to transit through Australia for up to 72 hours.

Visitor (subclass 600)

For tourists, business visitors or to visit family for three, six or 12 months.

Work and Holiday visa (subclass 462)

Allows young people from eligible countries to work and holiday in Australia for up to a year.

Working Holiday visa (subclass 417)

Permits young adults from eligible countries to work and holiday in Australia for up to 12 months.

Study and Training Visas

Student visa (subclass 500)

Allows international students to study full-time in Australia at a recognised educational institution.

Student Guardian visa (subclass 590)

Permits guardians to stay in Australia to care for a student visa holder under 18 years of age.

Training visa (subclass 407)

Enables individuals to participate in workplace-based training to improve skills for their current job, area of tertiary study or field of expertise.

Family and Partner Visas

Adoption visa (subclass 102)

Allows adopted children from overseas to live in Australia with their adoptive parents.

Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclass 114)

Permits aged relatives dependent on an Australian citizen or permanent resident to live in Australia.

Aged Dependent Relative visa (subclass 838)

Allows aged dependent relatives already in Australia to stay permanently with their family.

Aged Parent visa (subclass 804)

Enables aged parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or eligible New Zealand citizens to live in Australia permanently.

Carer visa (subclass 836)

Allows individuals to stay in Australia to care for a relative with a long-term medical condition.

Carer visa (subclass 116)

Permits carers to move to Australia to provide long-term care for a relative with a medical condition.

Child visa (subclass 101)

Allows a child outside Australia to move to Australia to live with their parents.

Child visa (subclass 802)

Permits a child already in Australia to stay permanently with their parents.

Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884)

Allows aged parents to stay temporarily in Australia while applying for a permanent Contributory Aged Parent visa.

Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864)

Enables aged parents to live permanently in Australia with their child who is an Australian citizen or resident.

Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 173)

Permits parents to stay temporarily in Australia while applying for a permanent Contributory Parent visa.

Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143)

Allows parents to live permanently in Australia with their child who is an Australian citizen or resident.

Dependent Child visa (subclass 445)

Enables a dependent child to stay in Australia temporarily while their parent’s permanent visa is processed.

New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship (temporary) visa (subclass 461)

Allows non-New Zealand family members of New Zealand citizens to live and work in Australia temporarily.

Orphan Relative (subclass 117)

Permits an orphaned child outside Australia to live with their Australian relative permanently.

Orphan Relative (subclass 837)

Allows an orphaned child already in Australia to stay permanently with their Australian relative.

Parent visa (subclass 103)

Enables parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens to live in Australia permanently.

Partner (Provisional and Migrant) visa (subclass 309 and 100)

Allows partners of Australian citizens or residents to live in Australia temporarily and then permanently.

Partner visa (subclass 820 and 801)

Permits partners of Australian citizens or residents to stay in Australia temporarily and then permanently.

Prospective Marriage visa (subclass 300)

Allows individuals to come to Australia to marry their Australian fiancé and then apply for a partner visa.

Remaining Relative visa (subclass 115)

Permits individuals whose only near relatives are in Australia to live there permanently.

Remaining Relative visa (subclass 835)

Allows individuals already in Australia, whose only near relatives are there, to stay permanently.

Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870)

Enables parents of Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens to stay in Australia temporarily for up to three or five years.

Working and Skilled Visas

Business Innovation and Investment (permanent) visa (subclass 888)

Allows business owners and investors to live permanently in Australia after meeting certain requirements.

Business Owner (subclass 890)

Enables business owners to live permanently in Australia after successfully running a business.

Global Talent visa (subclass 858)

Allows highly skilled individuals in specific sectors to live permanently in Australia.

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)

Permits skilled workers nominated by an Australian employer to live and work permanently in Australia.

Investor visa (subclass 891)

Allows investors to live permanently in Australia after maintaining a designated investment for four years.

Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) visa (subclass 191)

Grants permanent residency to skilled workers who have lived and worked in regional Australia.

Pacific Engagement Visa (subclass 192)

Facilitates permanent residency for citizens of Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste to live in Australia.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187)

Permits skilled workers nominated by regional employers to live and work permanently in regional Australia.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 494)

Allows skilled workers to be sponsored by their employer and live and work in regional Australia with a pathway to permanent residency.

Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189)

Grants permanent residency to invited workers, eligible New Zealand citizens and eligible Hong Kong or British National (overseas) passport holders with skills that are needed in Australia.

Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)

Permits skilled workers nominated by an Australian state or territory to live permanently in Australia.

Skilled-Recognised Graduate visa (subclass 476)

Allows recent engineering graduates to live, work, or study in Australia for up to 18 months.

Skilled Regional (provisional) visa (subclass 489)

Permits skilled workers to live and work in regional Australia temporarily with a pathway to permanent residence.

Skilled Regional visa (subclass 887)

Grants permanent residency to skilled workers who have lived and worked in regional Australia.

Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491)

Allows skilled workers to live and work in designated regional areas of Australia for up to five years.

State or Territory Sponsored Business Owner visa (subclass 892)

Enables business owners sponsored by a state or territory to live permanently in Australia.

State or Territory Sponsored Investor visa (subclass 893)

Permits investors sponsored by a state or territory to live permanently in Australia.

Temporary Activity visa (subclass 408)

Allows individuals to come to Australia for specific short-term work.

Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485)

Permits recent graduates to live, study, and work in Australia temporarily after completing their studies.

Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403)

Enables individuals to work in Australia under specific circumstances aimed at improving Australia’s international relations.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400)

Allows visa holders to do short-term, highly specialised work in Australia.

Temporary Skill Shortage visa (subclass 482)

Permits skilled workers to work in Australia temporarily when an employer cannot find a local worker.

Refugee and Humanitarian Visas

Global Special Humanitarian (subclass 202)

Allows individuals outside Australia facing substantial discrimination or human rights abuse to live permanently in Australia.

Protection visa (subclass 866)

Grants permanent residency to individuals in Australia who meet the refugee or complementary protection criteria.

Refugee visas (subclass 200, 201, 203, and 204)

Permits those subjected to persecution in their home country to live permanently in Australia.

Temporary Protection visa (subclass 785)

Provides temporary protection for refugees without a visa in Australia and are seeking asylum.

Safe Haven Enterprise visa (subclass 790)

Allows people who arrive in Australia without a visa to stay in Australia temporarily to work or study.

Resolution of Status visa (subclass 851)

Grants permanent residency to individuals who previously held temporary protection visas in Australia.

Other Visas

Bridging visa A – BVA – (subclass 010)

Allows individuals to stay in Australia once their current substantive visa ceases and they are waiting for their new visa application to be processed.

Bridging visa B – BVB – (subclass 020)

Permits individuals to leave and return to Australia while their visa application is being processed.

Bridging visa C – BVC – (subclass 030)

Enables individuals who don’t already hold a substantive visa to stay in Australia while their visa application is processed.

Bridging visa E – BVE – (subclass 050 and 051)

Allows individuals to stay in Australia while resolving their immigration status or making arrangements to leave.

Crew Travel Authority visa (subclass 942)

Permits airline crew members who don’t have an Australian or New Zealand passport to enter Australia for work purposes.

Former Resident visa (subclass 151)

Grants permanent residency to former Australian residents and certain people who served in the Australian Defence Force.

Maritime Crew visa (subclass 988)

Allows foreign crew members of non-military ships to enter Australia by sea temporarily.

Medical Treatment visa (subclass 602)

Permits individuals to travel to Australia for medical treatment or to support someone needing treatment.

Resident Return visa (subclass 155 and 157)

Allows Australian permanent residents who leave Australia after their travel validity expires to re-enter Australia after travelling abroad.

Special Category visa (subclass 444)

Permits New Zealand citizens to live, work and study in Australia with a pathway to permanent residency.

Special Purpose visa

Grants entry to Australia for specific purposes, such as diplomatic or military duties. This visa is also available to airline crew members.

Investor Retirement visa (subclass 405)

Allows self-funded retirees to live in Australia during their retirement years.

Confirmatory (Residence) visa (subclass 808)

Grants permanent residency to former holders of Norfolk Island entry permits.

Repealed Visas

Repealed visas are visas that have been officially cancelled or withdrawn by the government, making them no longer valid for application or use.
